Sony and Warner Sue Anthropic Over Song Compositions
Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell sued Anthropic in California federal court over alleged unauthorized use of song compositions in Claude training. This is a complaint, not a finding of infringement; Anthropic disputes it and asserts fair use.
PARADIGM INSIGHTS:
A training dispute should be able to identify the works, claimed permissions and records of use before anyone argues from the model's output alone. That evidence is what lets a court test competing copyright and fair-use claims. Sony and Warner's complaint states allegations, Anthropic disputes them, and neither a technical audit nor a private forum should pre-judge the merits.
